This image is one of our favorite shots we have created so far! This is Cala Homes show home designed by interior designer Jill Eilbeck. This shot in particular was interesting as we were faced with a few challenges. The brief was to create a bright, airy and homely mood. We firstly had to add our own lighting to lift the ambient light level of the room, however we were very careful not to flood out the natural ambient light with artificial light we added as we wanted to maintain a natural look. The next step was to place a flash inside the fireplace to mimic the light that would come off the fire as if it were on, as this fire was not yet working – we then later added flames in Photoshop to make the fire place come to life.
As you can see in the before shot the ceiling light was not bang centre of the room and it was more notable as you can see the reflection of both ceiling lights in the mirror. This throws the balance of the photo off. So with a little bit of magic we re-positioned the foreground light and removed the back light in the reflection on the mirror to emphasis the shape of the foreground light creating a well balanced image. A little alteration can make a big difference.
